Ed Antoine
Founder & Owner
While a sophomore studying Aeronautical Engineering at Princeton University, Ed started teaching SAT prep classes as an escape from low paid work study jobs. But what started as a practical convenience, developed into an enduring love of test prep and the joy of working with students.
Philosophy
Ed see his main roles as helping students see what they are capable of. He assumes, and 30 years later still believes, that every student is bright, logical and capable of understanding middle and high school level academic work and standarized tests.
If something has them stumped or confused, it's just a misunderstanding that needs to be identified and corrected; and he invites students to join him in the inquiry as to what that might be. What's most exciting is when they find it, and the student realizes that there was never much wrong and now nothing standing in their way!
Danielle Twiss
Senior Instructor
Danielle graduated from the University of Oxford with a BA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. She is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Economics at the New School. She is an experienced tutor with a great love for teaching and the excitement that comes from working with students.
Jiho Kang
Senior Instructor
Jiho graduated from Harvard University with a BA in Applied Mathematics. He has worked as a data analyst in private industry and at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Since 2017 he has worked as a tutor for standardized test preparation (SAT and ACT) and academic subjects (mathematics, study skills and science). He likes to help students learn challenging topics and feel more at ease with math. When not tutoring, Jiho enjoys acting and singing.
Jonah Dratfield
Senior Instructor
Jonah is an educator, writer, and musician from Western Massachusetts. His educational philosophy emphasizes curiosity, depth of understanding, and the practical application of academic skills. He has worked extensively as a tutor and teacher throughout New York City, with students of all ages and backgrounds. When not teaching, he can be found writing articles, composing music, and playing jazz and folk guitar. He graduated from University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in English.
Lian States
Senior Instructor
Lian believes deeply that all students can achieve at high levels when given instruction that meets their needs. Her background is in elementary education, and she brings over 10 years of experience in classroom teaching, coaching, and instructional design. Lian graduated with a BA in International Studies and English from Washington University in St. Louis, and holds an MA in Elementary Education from the University of Missouri, St. Louis. When not teaching, she's usually hanging out with her senior rescue dog, Miriam.
Brendan O’Shea
Senior Instructor
Brendan received a BA in English-Writing from Marist College, and later a Masters in Teaching Secondary English & Students with Disabilities from Montclair State University. He has seven years of teaching experience, including middle school, high school, special education, and even one year teaching elementary English in Shenzhen, China. He believes that the key to helping a student reach their potential is tapping into their interests, strengths, and weaknesses and using them to guide their individual education. He enjoys traveling the world, collecting novels, and playing basketball.
Isis Davis-Marks
Instructor
Isis is a graduate of Yale University and the Bronx High School of Science. She's been tutoring since 2019, for SAT and SHSAT test preparation, as well as academic subjects - including literature, algebra, geometry, and history. She believes in mentoring and empowering students so encourages them to develop a love of learning and to be curious about the world around them. When not tutoring, Isis contributes written and visual work to various publications, such as the Nation and Smithsonian magazine, exhibits art nationally and internationally, and, for recreation, likes to knit, paint, draw, take photographs, write, and read.
Ivy Tong
Instructor
Ivy is a graduate of University of Rochester, with a dual degree in Computer Science and Studio Arts, and the Bronx High School of Science. She's been tutoring since 2019, for SAT, SHSAT and Hunter test preparation, as well as academic subjects - including algebra, geometry.
